The Last Match
It’s a long-standing principle that there is often opportunity to be found in the midst of a crisis. Or, as it’s more commonly put, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.
In the aftermath of COVID’s arrival, one particularly refreshing tall cool drink of lemonade for HMS was the beginning of a wonderful relationship with Writers Theatre.
We’d long wanted to work with this terrific Chicagoland theater company, but the opportunity had never presented itself.
COVID changed that. In immediate need of new content to keep itself in front of its subscribers, and recognizing that streaming content could expand its audience exponentially, Writers reached out to HMS to initiate a slew of online projects, including virtual galas and stage-to-screen adaptations.
The Last Match, a play written by Anna Ziegler, choreographed by Steph Paul and directed by Keira Fromm, had already been in pre-production when COVID hit, so it made sense to return to that show and adapt it for streaming.
Which is exactly what we teamed up Writers to do, the result being an engaging presentation of a wonderful play that provided both the intimacy of the camera and the thrilling theatricality for which Writers has long been acclaimed.
