Matt Hoffman
Co-founder and Executive Producer

Matt is a multiple Emmy Award®-winning director, editor, videographer and producer who earned a degree in television management from The Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University. He co-founded HMS Media with Scott Silberstein in January of 1988.

Matt supervises and directs HMS’ major multi-camera shoots for HMS’ broadcast specials and Broadway and regional theater, dance and music clients. Recent credits include directing the television adaptation of Lookingglass Alice, directing and editing the multi-Emmy winning streaming special Pagliacci for Lyric Opera and several recent specials for streaming and public television, including Emmy nominated shows Hamlet: Live at American Players Theatre, Christmas Carol: The Remix by Q Brothers and Live From The Harris: Adrian Dunn’s Emancipation. He was an Emmy winner for The Hip Hop Nutcracker for PBS, executive produced by Eva Price.

Matt directed the multi-Emmy winning Great Performances special Chicago Voices, featuring Renée Fleming, John Prine, Jessie Mueller, Kurt Elling, Shemekia Copeland and many others. In 2015 he directed and edited the PBS primetime special First You Dream: The Music of Kander & Ebb. He also directed A Christmas Carol: The Concert, three Under the Streetlamp specials and the concert film Celtic Woman: Emerald.

Other credits include his Emmy-winning direction for Why Am I Hiding, a groundbreaking documentary about the survivors of sexual assault hosted by L.A. Law’s Susan Ruttan, a multi-Emmy-winning turn as director and editor for Getting There, a dance performance documentary featuring Jump Rhythm Jazz Project, and another Emmy-winning turn as director for the electrifying performance documentary Dance For Life, which critics called "nothing short of stunning."

Matt’s Broadway and national tour press-footage directorial credits include: Hamilton, The Who’s Tommy, Dear Evan Hansen, Jagged Little Pill, How to Dance In Ohio, Good Night Oscar, Kimberly Akimbo, Slave Play, The Cher Show, The Band’s Visit, Fun Home, Waitress, Beautiful and many others.

Matt serves on the advisory board of Lucky Plush Productions. He and his wife Ellyn reside in Highland Park and are the proud parents of Danny and Rebecca.
